8. Largest predator in the world
When it comes to the Megalodon, it's important to note just how big and imposing it was. This was the biggest shark to ever exist, in all of history! Bones and fossils of the creature show that on average it was around 60-70 feet long, though some scientists think it could’ve been up to 90 feet!! But its length is literally only half of the equation. The other half is its weight, it was estimated to weigh around 60 tons. That's a 120,000 pound shark!

7. Different Ecosystem
One of the most dangerous things that can happen to an area is the arrival of an invasive species that drastically changes the ecosystem. Ecosystems are communities of interconnected things that are dependant on the delicate balance between humans, animals, and plants, and if something in the balance changes, the ecosystem suffers.

6. Fear of the Water
When it comes right down to it, one of the main reasons people fear the oceans of the world is because of sharks. Between real-life accounts and movies like Jaws, 37 Fathoms, and even The Meg, there's a cultural fear of sharks. Even though there are only specific sharks that are naturally aggressive to people, even the legendary Great White Shark isn't as much of a "human attacker" as you might think. But if the Megalodon were still around? Everyone would be afraid of the water!

5. Humans Vs. Megalodons
It's very true that all of this is speculation. I obviously don't know what would have happened if the Megalodon hadn’t died 2.6 million years ago. That being said, asking these questions makes us look deeper into what the Megalodon was. So, that brings up arguably the most important question of all...what would the Megalodon do if it ran into humans?

4. Shark vs. Shark
Here's another question we need to ask ourselves. Would the Megalodon be kind to other sharks in the water? Believe it or not, there are many shark species in the world today that actually attack their own species, or just other sharks in general. Great White Sharks, Tiger sharks, Hammerheads, and even Sevengills are known to eat other sharks, sometimes. Not always.

3. Advances in Technology
Believe it or not, the return of the Megalodon actually would spark a small bit of a technological revolution. Simply because if humans did come up against it, we would need better research devices, stronger and more efficient equipment and maybe even advanced weaponry or deterrents to keep them aways from swimming areas. In the case of deep sea explorers (whether it be manned or remote controlled subs), people would need to know they could either repel the shark, or survive its bite.

2. What Else Is Out There?
One of the biggest mysteries of our world is the simple fact that we don't know what all is out there. There are many species that were believed to be extinct, but actually aren't. And there are other species that are being discovered today that have lived for tens of thousands of years. So, if a creature from the prehistoric past lived to today, or going back to the previous scenario of "suddenly appearing again", that would cast a lot of questions as to what else could be living out there deep in the ocean that we don’t know about.

1. Jaws Wouldn't Exist
Let's forget the Megalodon for a bit. In the real world, the most feared shark in the ocean is the infamous Great White Shark. And one of the main reasons for this is because of the book and subsequent movies known simply as Jaws. This depicted a Great White Shark (called "Bruce") going crazy on a local beach that prompted some hunters to go out and kill the shark.

8. Saber-Tooth Cats
There are many animals from the ice age that scientists are talking about bringing back, but easily one of the more surprising suggestions they have is the Saber-Toothed Cat. These massive cats were the ancestors to many of the "big cats" we have in the world today. With the exception that they had fangs that our cats could only dream of, and they were much more vicious. These cats went extinct around 11,000 years ago.

7. Baiji River Dolphin
Also known as the Yangtze River Dolphin, this dolphin is listed as critically endangered but most scientists agree that it is already extinct. This dolphin actually died out pretty recently, and so, scientists feel that they can bring them back, or at least try to. The last documented sighting was in 2002 although every so often someone claims to have seen one jumping out of the river.

6. Woolly Rhinoceros
The woolly rhinoceros went extinct about 10,000 years ago but some very well-preserved specimens have been found in the ice. Scientists have decided to take advantage of this opportunity and bring back megafauna from the ice age, including the Woolly Rhinoceros.

5. Passenger Pigeons
The Passenger Pigeon may be one of the truly tragic extinction stories, as the Passenger Pigeon was once one of the dominant bird species in the United States. According to the Smithsonian, there were once around 5 billion of these birds in the United States before the settlers came. Once settlers arrived, they started to destroy their habitat and hunt them for food and sport.

4. The Tasmanian Tiger
Also known as the Thylacine or the Tasmanian Wolf, this animal was the largest carnivorous marsupial to live in modern times. This creature was the Apex Predator of its ecosystem on the island off of Australia. It would hunt all kinds of animals with lethal intent, which actually led to its downfall. The settlers of Australia didn't like that this creature was eating their livestock, so they would actually put bounties on its head, and many, MANY, people were happy to take that up.

3. The Moa
The Moa were flightless birds that lived in New Zealand. They went extinct about 700 years ago and now scientists are very close to bringing them back!! They were very tall birds, reaching 12 feet tall at times, and could weigh over a ton. However, with the arrival of humans in the 13th century, they were hunted to extinction.

2. Woolly Mammoth
The Woolly Mammoth has been documented and studied immensely ever since the first bones were found by modern scientists. And so it should come as no big surprise that there are many scientists trying to bring back this massive creature.

1. The Dodo Bird
The Dodo Bird has always stood out amongst extinct animals as the poster animal for human-induced extinction. So why do we care? This would be the best species for scientists to bring back!

10. Ocean Quahog
The Ocean Quahog, or Arctica Islandica, is a large bivalve that grows up to ten centimeters tall. Large populations can

be found in the ocean waters around Iceland, but they live buried beneath the sea bed all across the Atlantic Ocean.

They hold the record for being the longest known living creatures on our planet, with one specimen that was caught in

2006 thought to be about 507 years old. This means it would have been born in 1499.
Despite their longevity, the Ocean Quahog has been put on the list of at-risk species of the North-East Atlantic Ocean

because numbers have been plummeting. This has happened due to extensive fishing to send to the USA for the manufacture

of clam chowder soup, increased pollution of the seas by plastic and chemical waste, and the destruction of their

habitats by deep sea dredge fishing.
9. The Vaquita
The Vaquita, a small species of porpoise, was only first discovered in 1958- but today finds itself as being the world’s

rarest marine mammal and on the brink of extinction. They are native to the Gulf of California off the coast of Mexico,

where large numbers used to gather, but numbers have severely fallen because of human activity in the area.
A study in 1997 estimated a population in the region of only 600, but this fell to 100 in a similar survey in 2014 and

most recently, in 2016, the total number is though to be around 30. That’s a population decline of over 92 percent since

1997, and means this glorious creature sadly doesn’t have much time left.
Unlike other animals that are facing extinction because of hunting, the loss of Vaquita’s is mainly as a by-product of

the fishing of an endangered fish called the Totoaba. This large, 300 pound fish is highly sought after for its swim

bladder that is popular in Chinese medicine and, as a result, commands a high price. The gillnets that are used to catch

the Totoaba also traps large numbers of Vaquita and has been the single most destructive factor towards Vaquita numbers.

Despite the Mexican governments attempts to limit the fishing of the Totoaba for this reason, even banning the use of

gillnets in 2015 for two years and setting up wildlife refuges, the porpoise has not been able to recover because there

are still lots of trawlers using the nets illegally.
8. Javan Rhinoceros
Rhinos are one of the more famous animals of the world that are endangered, but rather than the more well-known white

and black Rhinos from Africa, the most at-risk type of the five different species is the Javan Rhinoceros.
They used to be prevalent across south east Asia, but with the last Javan Rhino of Vietnam having been poached in 2010,

the only known remaining ones all live in the Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia. They are very similar in

appearance to the closely related “Greater One-Horned Rhino” and are a dusky grey color with one horn that grows up to

about ten inches long. The loose folds of their skin make them look like they have armor plating, and they are thought

to live for between thirty and forty years.
With only around 60 of these Rhinos left in the wild, and none in captivity, their future survival depends on the

ability of park rangers to protect them from the threat of poachers- who hunt them for their valuable horns that are a

valuable commodity across the region for their supposed medicinal properties.
