List of strangest planets in the universe:
10. HD 188753
A planet was discovered to have not one, not two, but three suns glowing in the sky. It is located in HD 188753, a triple-star system located 149 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. Similar to Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine that had 2 suns, this Jupiter-like planet must have spectacular sunsets. The main star is similar in mass to our own sun and it orbits very close to it, completing one orbit every 3.5 days. It is still a complete mystery as to how this planet formed in such a complicated setting as the 3 stars would all be pulling it in 3 different directions.
9. CoRoT-7b
This volcanic inferno was the first rocky planet confirmed to be orbiting another star outside of our solar system.
Known as a Super Earth, it orbits a star 480 light-years away and weighs about 5x the mass of Earth. It is 23x closer to its star than Mercury is to our sun, bringing its surface temperature up to a hellish 4,000 degrees Farenheit (2,200 degrees Celsius).
The same side is always facing the star and the other side is always in shadow, where temperatures can drop to minus 350 F (minus 210 C).
This rocky planet may be the left-over core of a former gas giant whose atmosphere evaporated a long time ago. If so, it would be the first kind of this type of planet.
The extreme heat is so terrible that it can actually vaporize rock. It's atmosphere could have weather systems that cause pebbles to condense out of the air and rain rocks onto the molten surface of the planet. Since it is so close to its star, it is very likely that this planet was once much larger, and is now evaporating before our eyes.
8. TrES-2b: The Dark Planet
Since the Dark Planet is much more memorable name than TrES-2b, we'll just stick with that. This planet is literally darker than coal. Discovered by NASA's Kepler space telescope in 2006, it is the size of Jupiter and orbits a star around 750 light-years from Earth. It's nickname, the ‘Dark Planet’ comes from its unique status as the darkest planetary object in the known Universe. This gas giant is heated to 1800 degrees Farenheit (980 degrees Celsius) , and orbits extremely close to its parent star.
According to current computer models, hot planets like Jupiter that are gas giants could only be as dark as Mercury, which reflects only 10% if sunlight that hits it. It is very strange that the Dark Planet only reflects about 1% of the light that hits it. It is even less reflective than coal and black acrylic paint. If we could see it up-close, it would look like a black ball of gas with a faint red glow.
7. 55 Cancri e – The Diamond Planet
Initially discovered in 2004, 55 Cancri e (also known as Janssen) has been a mystery ever since the first analyses came through about its composition. Approximately the mass of 8 earths, it orbits its host star about 40 light years away from our solar system. Temperatures reach up to 3,100 Fahrenheit, and measurements of a transit captured in 2011 made it possible to calculate its density, and this is where it got interesting. It appears that this planet is actually solid and made up of a carbon-rich material, rather than the oxygen rich material that forms the rocky planets in our solar system. As a result it is very likely that this rocky planet is covered in carbon that has turned into diamond and graphite.
According to the current market value of the diamond, it would be worth $26.9 nonillion. Forbes states that only 0.182% of the planet would need to be mined to pay back the entire debt that has been accumulated by all the governments on earth.
6. WASP-12b
The ‘Wide Area Search for Planets’, also known as WASP, first discovered this planet in 2008, 600 light-years away. It orbits incredibly close to its parent star, about 1/44th of the distance that our planet orbits our sun, giving it a surface temperature of around 2200 degrees Celsius (3992 degree Farenheit). It is the hottest known planet in the Milky Way and it may also be the shortest-lived.
The doomed planet is getting eaten by its parent star and the star's tidal forces are pulling away its atmosphere, turning it into an egg shape.
This is the first time that we have been able to observe a star consuming a planet so clearly.
At the current rate, WASP-12B may be entirely gone within 10 million years.

10. Homo Heidelbergensis
The Homo Heidelbergensis lived in Europe and possibly Asia around 700,000 to 200,000 years ago. It was an early species of human that had a very large brow-ridge, and a distinctly larger braincase and a flatter face than those that came before them. This was the first early human that lived in colder climates. It is believed they were able to do so because of their shorter, wider bodies that helped to conserve heat. They were the first species that we know of that built shelters from wood and rocks, were adept at using fire, and routinely hunted large animals with wooden spears.
Workmen in Heidelberg in Germany first discovered them in 1908, which is where they got their name. Despite knowing a few details about how they lived based upon further discoveries that have been made, there’s still a lot that we don’t know. For example, is this just one species or the combination of a few unknown ones? Where does Homo Heidelbergensis fit in with our own evolutionary path? And, were there any other adaptations that made this species of human more suited to colder climates than their predecessors?
9. Homo Rudolfensis
The Homo Rudolfensis lived in Eastern Africa between 1.9 million and 1.7 million years ago. It was a very early species of human, and evidence of them is so rare that there’s only one example of a good fossil that was found in Kenya in 1986. The feature that makes the Homo Rudolfensis different is the size of the brain casing. In the example that has been found, it measures at 775 cubic centimeters, which is much larger than has been found in any specimens of earlier species, and signifies a much larger and capable brain. It also had a longer face and larger molar and premolar teeth that show its links to more recent types of human.
Because the fossil of Homo Rudolfensis comes from so long ago, we know very little about this species- we don’t even know if it comes from the same lineage as we do, or whether it was one that eventually died out through competition with more capable species. We also don’t know how large they grew, or even what differences, if any, that there were between the males and females.
8. Homo Habilis
Homo Habilis lived in Eastern and Southern Africa between 2.3 million and 1.4 million years ago, which makes them one of the longest surviving species of any of our ancestors. They are one of the earliest “Homo” species, and thought to be one of the first steps of evolution to what we are today. They had a larger brain case and smaller face and teeth than their predecessors, but still showed ape-like features such as longer arms and legs. They weighed about 70 pounds and would grow to be up to 5 feet tall.
The first confirmed fossil of Homo Habilis was discovered in 1960. The name Habilis means “Handy Man” in reference to the fact these are thought to be the first ones to use stone tools. Of course they lived an extremely long time ago so there’s a lot about them that we don’t know yet. Questions that researchers are dying to answer include; are they a direct ancestor of today’s humans? Are they related to, or the same species as Homo Rudolfensis? And, how did they survive the variable conditions on earth that we know went on at that time?
7. Homo Floresiensis
The Homo Floresiensis, often called the Hobbit, lived in Indonesia between 100,000 and 50,000 years ago. This is one of the most recently discovered species, having been found in 2003, and so far finds have been limited to the island of Flores. This was a very small species, a trait that is thought to have occurred because of island dwarfism where the limited resources available to creatures that are isolated on islands causes different evolutionary effects. They were only about 3 foot 6 inches tall, had very small brains, no chins, receding foreheads and very large feet. These estimates are based on a female skeleton that was found, that also suggests they could weigh up to 66 pounds.
The discovery of this species has raised more questions than it has answered for researchers. For example, stone tools that were found on the island date back over a million years, so who made them if Homo Floresiensis only arrived 100,000 years ago? How did they live, and why did they die out? And, most interestingly in regards to our own species, did they ever come into contact with our own predecessors?

Ghost Island
In 2013 researchers went looking for Sandy Island in the Coral Sea, east of Australia. Scientific databases showed the island to be about the size of Manhattan. Discovered in 1876 by a whaling ship, Sandy Island has been included on maps for more than a century, including, obviously, on Google Earth. When the Australian scientists arrived at the location, the only thing they found was open ocean. There was no other island that could have possibly been Sandy in sight. It just wasn’t there. So what happened to it? Did it sink beneath the waves? Was it just a figment of our imagination? It's possible that what the whaling ship had seen was a pumice raft, a floating raft of frothy light rock produced by volcanoes that can float around for years before breaking up. The island had gained so much fame it actually had an obituary published for it in April 2013. In it the researchers explained how the phantom island could have remained in geographical mind and maps due to human error. This "undiscovery" made headlines around the world and reminds us that despite modern technology, there are still mysteries to be solved in the ocean. Google and National Geographic quickly removed Sandy Island from their maps.
Pentagram
One thing's for sure, this is no crop circle or accident, this pentagram was placed there on purpose. Located in Kazakhstan, this is sure to lead any suspicious mind to the devil’s door. The 5-pointed star surrounded by a circle measures 1,200 feet (366m) in diameter. Located on the shore of a desolate lake, the pentagram shows up crystal clear on Google Maps if you wanted to look it up yourself. When the image first rose from the underworld to the internet, many were quick to link it, and Google, to devil worship. The pentagram is an ancient symbol used by many cultures and is not always satanic. It turns out that it is simply a park. Archaeologist Emma Usmanova has worked in the region for years and explained that its pathways were purposefully designed to create the shape of a star. The star is marked by roads lined with trees, making the shape stand out. The star was a popular symbol during the Soviet Union and many guessed that the site may have been an abandoned Soviet campground.
Desert Spiral
Google maps has frozen this double spiral in time. When people first saw the formation located in the Egyptian desert near the coast of the Red Sea, all kinds of theories arose. Crop circle, alien message, even a portal to an alternate universe. It’s too large and perfectly designed to have been created by any one person. Well, it was actually created by three women. Known as the Desert Breath, it is a super sized art installation created by DAST Arteam, a trio of Greek artists in March of 2007. The piece covers an area of about 10 hectares (25 acres). According to the artists it’s meant to "celebrate the desert as a state of mind, a landscape for the mind.” The spiral is made up of cones made from sand and is subject to natural erosion. Over time it will disappear and become part of the desert plain once more.
Syrian Holes
Images of the current civil war in Syria is by no means new to the internet. While the destruction on a human level has been caught by photographers and news coverage, satellites have also recorded the damage to hundreds of archaeological sites. All six of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country, which are considered widely to be one of the oldest occupied areas on Earth have been damaged or destroyed. You can see the destruction for yourself if you were to look up Apamea via Google Earth. The location of the ancient Roman city is now a sea of pockmarked holes stretching over the entire area, left by looters since the start of the wr. Looters and treasure hunters have dug over 4000 holes looking for uncovered treasures to sell on the black market to finance the wr. These holes are about 2-3 meters across and in some cases are used to store weapons.
Airplane Graveyard
This might be one of the biggest, and coolest, graveyards you ever see. Located in Tucson, Arizona, the Davis Monthan Air Force Base is where U.S. military planes often find their final resting place. The cemetery stretches 2,600 acres and has been nicknamed “The Boneyard.” While the site is closed to the general public, modern day technology holds nothing sacred, not even the dead, and images of it are available for all to see on Google Earth (and other interactive maps). And it is something to see indeed.

9. An Ancient Computer
Recovered in the early 1900s by Greek divers, the Antikythera mechanism was found inside a Roman shipwreck near the Greek island of the same name. It is believed to the earliest form of a computer that is at least 2,000 years old. This complex clock-like device was used by ancient Greeks to calculate the movement of the stars and planets. The mechanism was composed of at least 30 different bronze gears and the whole thing was housed in a wooden frame that was decorated with thousands of characters. As so much of this period of history's technology has been lost, such advanced use of technology did not reappear in European historical artifacts until the 14th Century. It is now on display at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. The history of this device is shrouded in mystery. It is unclear how this intricate device ended up in the hands of Romans, but some believe the ill-fated ship was transferring a woman of importance to be married in Rome. The mechanism, among other impressive riches on board, may have been a wedding gift from her family.
8. Baltic Sea Anomaly
The Baltic Sea Anomaly was accidently discovered by a team of diving experts and treasure hunters from the Ocean X Team in 2011. The divers found a circular object with a diameter of about 160 feet that appeared in a sonar image as it sat on the sea bottom. It looks like the “Millennium Falcon” from “Star Wars”, and has an architectural structure similar to Stonehenge in Britain. Oddly enough, all of the divers’ electrical equipment stopped functioning within 650 feet of the entity and it emits a strong radio signal. Some say it could be a pre-Ice Age artifact or a German anti-submarine device. A long track seems to lead towards the thing which makes people think it is some kind of landing strip. The Swedes finally managed to organize an expedition finally in 2012. The very first shots of the object at close range showed that it is unlikely it had ever flown. It seems that it is not a “flying saucer”, but rather a kind of construction. The most probable theory was provided by Volker Bryuherta from Stockholm University. According to him, it’s just a rock. Since the Baltic Sea came under the influence of melting glaciers, these rocks probably formed at the same time. But this does not explain why satellite phones and cameras stop working near this “rock”. Though various scientists have offered innumerable suggestions about the entity’s origins, the Baltic Sea anomaly still remains one of the unsolved intrigues and ocean mysteries of the world.
7. The Bimini Road
The Bimini Road, sometimes called the Bimini Wall, is an underwater rock formation near North Bimini island in the Bahamas. Researchers, geologists, archaeologists, and scientists alike have visited and studied the huge, flat stones off the coast of Bimini, known as the Bimini Road . They have tried for years to discern whether the limestone blocks are a natural phenomenon, or evidence of an ancient lost civilization. About 20 feet down in the clear blue water, is a stone path. Most people think it's a road made up of limestone blocks that's about half a mile long, but no one knows where it goes or what its purpose might have been. The stone blocks are huge and some are about 13 feet long. An American expedition in 2004 discovered a second and third layer of stone blocks which also suggests a wall of some sort although they weren't able to get to the bottom. Some people think that this might be proof of the location for the lost city of Atlantis.
6. Emeralds
Amateur diver and treasure hunter Jay Miscovish walked into a bar in Key West and bought a treasure map from a diver friend at a bar in 2010. He went on to discover more than 10,000 emeralds off the coast of Florida, making it one of the largest discoveries of sunken treasure in history. His company claimed that they had found over 154 pounds of emeralds, amethysts, and other stones lying on the ocean floor. Journalists from CBS news when to interview him and he poured out a laundry basked full of emeralds and told them that they likely came from an ancient shipwreck. The story earned him mass media attention but he refused to give out more information about the map and the man who had sold it to him, claiming he had paid him $50,000 to give up all rights to the treasure. Camera crews went with him on a dive and they also found emeralds and amethysts lying on the ocean floor but no hint as to the actual vessel that may have been transporting them.

11.) Netflix Viewer
This job sounds pretty awesome! Netflix employs people called "taggers," which are part-time employees who get paid to watch TV shows and movies on the streaming service. Taggers associate Netflix content with various tags, helping the service recommend other shows and movies to viewers after they finish watching. If you have Netflix, this is why it will suggest another horror movie if you watched “The Conjuring.” Sometimes you will get super weird recommendations that have nothing to do with what you were watching but I think that’s what they were trying to fix. Not too long ago, Netflix was hiring for a tagger in children’s movies. The job description stated, “The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge of kids’ (ages 0–12) movies and television content. Our team is responsible for determining, across the United States and worldwide: 1) which content belongs in Kids profiles and how it evolves as kids grow up, and 2) tagging Kids shows and movies with an eye toward accuracy and consistency.” The jobs are also listed as remote, so you can watch them from the comfort of your own home. Are you interested?

10.) Drying Paint Watcher
There is probably nothing more boring than watching paint dry but there is an actual person who does this for a living. For example, there was an article about a man in the UK who spends his days painting sheets of cardboard to test how long new paint mixes take to dry and watching for changes in color and texture. In fact, this man has had this job for over 30 years and states that he has yet to get tired of the task. While it is described as the most boring job in the world, it is also extremely important. As the man states, the people who buy the products want paint that is going to dry quickly and his job is to make sure this happens. Professional paint watchers can make anywhere from $40,000 to $60,000 a year. Pretty weird! I wonder how you get recruited for that?

9.) Train Stuffer
If you think the London Underground is bad, you should see the trains in Japan. ‘Oshiyas’ are hired to help cram as many people onto a train as possible by pushing them from the outside and stuffing everyone in quickly until the doors close. Their job is literally to make sure the train is fully utilized. There is an art to this! In fact, there are videos on Youtube of people in white gloves helping to stop people from falling out, especially during peak hours. If you live in a large city and taken public transportation, you might actually appreciate this. They generally work during the morning and evening rush hours and if you look at images floating around the internet, you will see people crammed right up to the door. They are literally touching the door and it looks like they are barely able to move until the doors open at the next stop.

8.) Golf Ball Diver
Golf ball divers do exactly as their name suggests. Dive for golf balls! Officially they have to search for the lost golf balls in the waters of golf courses. They can be seen wearing scuba gear and driving around the golf course in a golf cart. It is stated that around 2,000-5,000 balls can be collected by a golf ball diver every day. Some people get this job by starting their own business, while others work under another company. In fact, over the past couple of decades, golf ball retrieval and recycling has become a multimillion-dollar industry, in which hardworking divers can earn between $50,000 and $100,000 annually, depending on the economy and a diver's stomach for harsh conditions. They usually only get paid a few cents per golf ball they retrieve but they have to have a lot of skill. The lakes and ponds and other bodies of water on golf courses can be pretty dangerous. There can be all kinds of stuff on the bottom and golf ball divers have to work through the garbage, branches, leaves, and muck often on their hands and knees. There can be wires, cables, and pipes where they can get stuck and of course don’t forget the other dangers like snakes, alligators, and toxic fertilizers.
